If you’ve been paying attention to new car releases lately, then you know that 2017 is looking to be an exciting year for the auto industry. As great as many of the new and revamped 2017 models are, however, there’s one new vehicle announcement, in particular, that has us very excited. In honor of the Mopar brand’s 80th anniversary, Fiat/Chrysler has announced that it will be releasing a limited edition version of the Dodge Challenger, one of the most famous and beloved classic American cars.
Limited Edition Dodge Challenger
Anyone interested in the limited edition 2017 Dodge Challenger better act fast: Chrysler has announced that they will only be making 160 units. If you’re interested in classic cars or high-performance vehicles, however, it’s well worth the effort to try to get your hands on one of these beauties.
Sporting a design that recalls the classic era of American cars from which the Challenger was first created, the 2017 version will feature two different color schemes: Billet Silver or Contusion Blue, both of which have Pitch Black across the hood, roof, pillars and deck lid.
Under the hood, the 2017 Dodge Challenger is sporting a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 capable of delivering 485 horsepower, equipped with a Mopar cold air intake and a Shaker hood scoop. An additional touch is the distinctive strut tower braces fitted into the engine bay and a six-speed manual gearbox.
As mentioned above, the 2017 Dodge Challenger is being made in honor of Mopar’s 80th anniversary. For those who aren’t familiar with the name, Mopar is Fiat Chrysler’s parts, service, and customer care organization. In addition to its customer service duties, Mopar is also responsible for designing and building customized vehicles.
The name “Mopar” was first used by Chrysler in the 1920s, and it is a combination of the words “motors” and “parts.” Originally used as just a bit of intercompany slang, Mopar became an official brand name in 1937. Mopar parts and services have been familiar to drivers of Dodge, Plymouth, Jeep, and all the other brands under the Fiat-Chrysler umbrella.
About the Dodge Challenger
The name “Challenger” has belonged to many different vehicles over the decades. The first family of Dodge Challengers appeared in 1958: the Dodge Silver Challenger. A second generation followed, staying in production from 1969 to 1974. This version of the Dodge Challenger, in particular, has become a collector’s item, and one of the classic models most fondly associated with a romantic past era of American car manufacturing.
Since the second generation of Dodge Challenger ended production, two more versions have followed: one that began production in the late 70s, and another that was introduced in 2008 to commemorate the model’s 50th anniversary.
