Every year, the New England Motor Press Association (NEMPA) holds its Annual Winter Vehicle Competition. While most people outside of car enthusiasts living in New England probably haven’t heard of this particular competition, being named NEMPA’s Official Winter Vehicle of New England is no small prize.
NEMPA was founded in 1987 to coordinate professional coverage of the auto industry in the American Northeast, and the organization speaks with the voice of the area’s best journalists and commentators covering everything cars, trucks, and SUVs. Why do we bring the contest up now? Because the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee was named NEMPA’s latest Official Winter Vehicle of New England, and our Jeep dealership Indianapolis team is excited to talk about it.
What Set the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Apart?
This isn’t the first time the Jeep Grand Cherokee has topped NEMPA’s year-end list. Over the last five years, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has been named Official Winter Vehicle of New England several times. More than that, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is the award-winningest SUV ever; no other SUV has received the same amount of acclaim, awards, and accommodations. So, really, it’s no surprise that the 2017 version of this celebrated SUV would be NEMPA’s pick for best of the year.
Still, there’s plenty of reasons why the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee would earn a place at the top of such an esteemed list. According to John Paul, the president of NEMPA,
“The Jeep Grand Cherokee faced tough competition, but ultimately was named NEMPA’s Official Winter Vehicle of New England due to its ability to go anywhere, selection of engine choices and its ‘just-right’ size.”
As much as we agree with Mr. Paul’s statement, such a short description can’t really capture everything that sets the 2017 Grand Cherokee apart. Let’s start with the fact that it has best-in-class fuel economy, thanks to its 3.0-liter clean EcoDiesel engine.
Then there’s the Quadra-Lift air suspension system and Selec-Terrain traction management system, which allow it to handle smoothly and easily while also being capable of towing 7,4000 pounds—another best-in-class rating.
2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk Named Best in Class
NEMPA didn’t stop with giving the Jeep Grand Cherokee its top spot for the year. Additionally, the 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk was named Best in Class in the Compact Affordable SUV/Crossover category.
What sets the Trailhawk apart is the number of premium options that come standard with it. These include heated and ventilated front seats with Nappa leather, heated steering wheel, power liftgate, remote start system, and power eight-way driver seat.
According to NEMPA’s Mr. Paul, “The Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk was able to conquer everything this past winter,” and is the “perfect all-around vehicle for New England.”
